Hi, i wonder if anyone could give me some advice. My close friend has been on thyroxine for a few years as she has a underactive thyroid. The dose has varied in years she has been taking it but recently she has been to the doctors as she has been feeling very run down. The doctor has done some tests and said that everything is normal except for her levels are low so he has increased her thyroxine to 200mg. The doctor has told her that she has a very problematic thyroid and if no improvement is seen within 4 weeks she will be admitted and futher tests done. He has indictated that they would be looking for tumours and growths in her throat/neck region, which has terrified her and she is now scared of what they could find. She has been told that no one has ever been higher that 250mg of throxine. Is there any other medication she could be given to help her thryoids? She has had an ultrasound of her thyroids done a few years ago and the sonographer said he could see some shadowing.....
round that area but nothing was ever followed up so we all thought it was nothing to be concerned about. Should she go back to her doctor and mention this or would this be on her files? Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What does a positive test result for granulocyte immunology mean?
I was diagnosed a year ago with hyperthyroidism & with a low neutrophil count. I had radioiodine treatment in May this year & my neutrophil count went up to within the normal range at last. However, my last blood test showed that I now have hypothyroidism instead ( I have now been prescribed Thyroxine) & my neutrophil level has dropped again. The haematologist stopped seeing me in June but wrote to me with the results of the granulocyte immunology to say that the test was positive & the most likely cause of my neutropenia is autoimmune. What is the likely meaning of this? Could it have anything to do with the fact that a few years before I was born, my father (who was in the RAF) was stationed on Christmas Island? Nuclear testing had been carried out there a few years previously, but not when my father was there.
